My experience of redesigning my ePortfolio through the Wix website builder.
New Pieces, Bigger Puzzle
I did not have to change anything on my homepage, about me page, or my contact page. However, I did update my course projects page, my resume, and my blog page. On the course projects page, I added two current crisis management assignments that I have completed recently that will ultimately build up to be an entire standing crisis plan. I then organized my course projects so that the most recent work was at the top and the least recent was at the bottom so viewers could see my progression in my work overtime. On my resume page, I updated my newly gained skills and the relevant courses section as the old resume was about two years old and a lot has changed for me in those two sections. Finally, for my blog page I drafted all the old blogs I had done for a previous course so they would be saved. Then, I created a new blog to reflect on the updated curation of my ePortfolio. I did this by using the same theme and template that I had previously written a blog post with that was my reflection for when I very first created my Wix ePortfolio.
When redesigning my ePortfolio to prepare it for this course, COMM 323, I think the hardest part was figuring out how exactly I wanted to adjust my old information so that I could smoothly flow into the new information that will be coming for this course so it can continue to make sense to potential viewers. I also think trying to remember how to use the Wix site was a little difficult for me because I have not used it in so long. On the flipside, the easiest part was being creative and having fun with it once I got back into the swing of how to edit and use the other functions on the Wix site. I also felt it was easier for me due to the fact that I already had just about everything required for this course set up and ready for me to plugin new information. Overall, I am really confident and happy with the look and information that my ePortfolio displays. I think it represents me as a professional, but a creative and fun person, too. I think I did well at balancing the professional information needed to make my ePortfolio and letting my personality shine through in an appropriate way.
Reflecting On The Experiences That Influenced The Pieces Of The Puzzle
When I was younger, I was on a swim team and at first, I really did not see eye to eye with my coach. He was very hard on the whole team and always tried to push us past what we thought we were capable of. After weeks of practicing, it was finally time for our first competition. I won all my races and was so proud of myself, but there was a moment in my last race where I just felt so tired and like I was not going to pull it out. In that moment, it was like I could hear his loud and encouraging words telling me to keep swimming, so I did, and I finished my race strong. After that competition, I started not to mind his coaching techniques so much anymore and started to appreciate them. Now I know that was the type of coaching/leading I needed to pull through what I had to get done.
I attended a Mother’s Day tea at our church a few years ago with my mother, grandmother, and sister. The idea behind the event was lovely, but the preparation and execution of the event was not carried out well. The event was very casual and “go with the flow”, but it was missing the needed structure to make the event stress free for the attendees. The event ended up having people constantly getting up and walking around a lot because things were not set up in an order to ensure you grab all your required materials to set/decorate your table at one time. I think the biggest problem was that there was not anyone who was really in charge. If I had done this event, I would have made a flow to it. First, I would have done an opening/welcome speech. Then would have had staff on duty to prepare the tea while the families were setting and decorating their tables and talking. Finally, I would have had the food out buffet style for families to come up and make their plates while the staff served the tea. Then, after all the that was settled, it would be time for a quick prayer. After prayer, everyone could eat and mingle. Finally, I would have the conversational speech that carried the Mother’s Day message to all and a closing prayer. Then, finished up by having each family clear their tables for staff to take care of in the kitchen and then everyone’s goodbyes. I think if it would have been done this way, it would not have been so much unorganized chaos and they would have been more willing to continue the tea annually. Unfortunately, they did not continue it which I felt was due to how the first one played out.
The Evolved Picture
Overall, I enjoyed the experience of updating and refreshing my ePortfolio through the Wix website and I currently have no questions regarding this course project. I am proud of how my ePortfolio represents who I am.
